Sewing the Sabina Skirt by The Little Pomegranate

The Sabina Skirt by

The Little Pomegranate

Above is an image of my finished Sabina skirt, I made this one out of Fabric Godmother 'Cloud' Viscose Sateen in Rose Pink.

I am not really a skirt person (apart from denim skirts).  I find skirts never really sit right on me as my body is short making my natural waist point quite high.  In the past I have bought and made skirts with waist bands that are either too big and sit really low and move around a lot making them unflattering.  Or they are too small and sit too high making my waist look really short.  When I saw the Sabina skirt pattern with the elasticated waist I thought I would try it as it was something new for me and elasticated trousers I have discovered in the past seem to work well with my shape.

I am so pleased I decided to make this skirt.  I am so pleased with how it looks. Not to mention this is a FREE pattern!  I was so impressed with the detailed and thorough instructions!  This pattern would be perfect for people that are at the beginning of their sewing journey.  It was so enjoyable to make and the details like the pockets and the ruffle at the bottom make this skirt just that little bit more special.

What makes the fit of this skirt different to other skirts I have had in the past is the elastic waist detail.  It sits snug just below my natural waist making my body appear longer than other skirts have done in the past and is really flattering for my shape too.

I can see myself wearing this skirt often as it is very versatile and could be work casually with trainers and a T-shirt or dressed up with heels and a fancier top.  This will not be my only Sabina skirt, I can see this skirt made up in many fabrics for many occasions.

As I has some fabric left over I decided to make a True Bias Ogden Cami with the scraps (there was a massive game of pattern tetris but I got there in the end) the facing for the Ogden was actually made from viscose pink gingham scraps that were a similar weight to the viscose sateen.  Recently I have seen quite a few faux dresses and I really wanted to try that too.  I am so pleased with how the Sabina and the Ogden work together!  Also I am super happy that I now have two really lovely individual items of clothing.

I really loved making the Sabina Skirt, I would recommend this pattern to complete beginners and more experienced sewists too.  It really was and enjoyable sew and a lovely garment to make.

Also I just wanted to show this lovely little tag from Hey Sew Sister that I used to finish the skirt.  I love these tags from the 'Indie Mix Tape Vol 1' label collection.  I have been a massive fan of this song and the Kooks for a very long time and I love this message as a label! This also helps me to easily tell the front from the back.
