Ashling Dress
Papercut Patterns
Fabric from Sew Me Sunshine
Introducing my newest make, the Ashling Dress by Papercut Patterns. If you know me you will know I love Papercut Patterns, I love their interesting construction and unique pattern details. I also love the fact that they are a New Zealand company and that is where I am from and I love supporting New Zealand businesses when I can. This version is made from Dusky Rose Cotton Needlecord from Sew Me Sunshine Shop I can always find the fabric I want from Sew Me Sunshine, they have such a brilliant range.
This was my second Ashling dress. The first Ashling dress was made out of black and green viscose from Fabric Godmother and I really enjoy wearing it. I bought the needlecord with another pattern in mind, but when it arrived I thought this would be the perfect pattern for it! This is a great pattern and as always when making a pattern for the second time it was easier and a bit quicker too.
I only had 2m of this fabric so the skirt part is a bit shorter than usual (by about an inch) and the inside yoke, collar stand and pockets are made from contrasting floral fabric. At first I wasn't sure but I actually really like the floral contrast fabric. Because the pattern has so much ease around the waist and hips on the finished garment measurements, I used these as my guidelines and I made a Size 2 (normally I would make a Size 3) the Size 2 fits really well.
Frill Cuff and Sleeve Placket Detail
One feature that makes this pattern really lovely is the ruffle sleeves. The sleeve plackets are quite simple compared to other patterns I have made recently so that was good. I also like how simple they are and the fact that the placket is not a big feature.
The buttons are all from my stash and they do not match which makes this dress even more individual.
Another thing that is great about the Ashling pattern is that it is super relaxed and comfy to wear but somehow still looks flattering.
Here is a front view of the dress.
Finished off by a lovely little tag from Little Rosie Cheeks because of course 'I Made This'
