Meadowland Quilt
Then Came June Patterns
A gift to my Mum and Dad for their 50th Wedding Anniversary
I recently made this Meadowland Quilt by Then Came June Patterns. I made it for my Mum and Dad's 50th Wedding Anniversary. As I couldn't go to see them in New Zealand and celebrate with them I wanted to make something special for them. This was my first quilt and an awful lot of thought went into it. Each stage of the quilt took such a long time for me to build my confidence to know what to do! Each time I came to a new step I would watch online tutorials and think very carefully about what I needed to do. Sometimes I would take weeks to get the courage to do the next step. With dressmaking I am not like this at all, I think it was a combination of me not knowing what to actually do and I think because it was such a special project I didn't want to mess it up.
I am so pleased with the was that this quilt turned out, I know it is not perfect but for a first time effort I think it is okay. This quilt is made from Moda Bella Solids (I couldn't say exactly what the colours are). I know the binding is called Amelia Purple and I chose that especially for my Mum and Dad as it represents me. The backing fabric is pale pink with golden pineapples on it to represent the 50th Wedding Anniversary.
The photos above are close ups of the quilt backing fabric.
The backing fabric was from The Fabric Quarter in Lincoln. The whole staff at the Fabric Quarter are so amazing and helpful, Annette in particular gave me loads of advice about the bamboo wadding which I ended up buying in the shop too. I love this fabric so much and love how it added the gold element for the 50th Anniversary.
The photos below are my first attempt at #quiltsinthewild these photos were taken at Blythe Hill on the 13th of February at Blythe Hill in SE London.
Photos that were taken on a grey, windy and rainy day in South East London
Quilt symbolism:
- The name of the quilt is the 'Meadowland Quilt' the last house I lived in with my Mum and Dad was in a suburb of Auckland called Meadowlands.
- The 50th Wedding Anniversary is gold. The backing is pale pink (Mum and Dad called me their pink bundle) and the fabric has metallic golden pineapples on it for the Golden Anniversary.
- The purple I have used for the boarder is called 'Amelia Purple'
In the photo above and the ones below you can see the headband that I made out of the backing fabric. Of course only the coolest people have headbands to match the quilts they made!
Close up of the headband and of course a lovely photo with Patsy.
Here is a photo of my Mum and Dad with the quilt that had been sent all the was to NZ just in time for Winter
Love you Mum and Dad I hope you enjoy your present and congratulations on your 50th Wedding Anniversary xxx
A photo having just opened the quilt (over skype of course)!
